Nearly three months have passed since the communities' defeat of the flawed Carmans River Plan 2.0 on March 29th; ABCO and our communities have worked steadfastly and hoped patiently for the Town to act on ABCO's plan for moving ahead. Sadly, some members of the Town Board have failed to act or even respond to ABCO's fully fleshed out and specifically defined process for moving towards the creation of a citiizens community- based committee to develop an alternate plan and strategy for protection of the Carmans River Watershed...We can't help remembering how once upon a time, and not really so very long ago, 4th District Councilwoman Kepert (a former President of ABCO) would have stood shoulder to shoulder with us as a strong advocate and important ally pressing the Town hard to act..Sadly it appears that now as a councilmember, she may be a new obstacle to moving forward. Last night the town once again failed to take any action to create a meaningful process to develop a real planning process to move forward. Unfortunately, the Town Board will not meet again until the end of August, so at least another spring and summer will have passed without action by the town board to protect this 'Jewel of the Isle" and in all likihood we will once again enter the fall having now lost almost two full years without a meaningful Protection Plan for the Watershed fully in place. Just some food for thought... "community-based planning processes turn the 'business as usual,' process of development on its head. No longer do developers determine a community's future; instead the community tells the developer and the Town of Brookhaven how they would like to see their neighborhoods built. When the residents have this level of input in the planning process everyone wins." Councilwoman Connie Kepert
